The 2014 vintage of 2040 is lush and elegant consisting of high-elevation, mountain fruit with aromas of violet, blueberry and black cherry. The palate is rich with sweet oak and a hint of spice with a velvety smooth, lingering finish and well-integrated tannins. Pairs with a grilled filet mignon, braised beef short ribs and sharp cheeses. Enjoy this wine now or cellar for enjoyment for years to come. Reserved mostly for their mailing list, there is a minute quantity of this wine that is released from the winery. It is a sad truth that most California Cabernet Sauvignon is consumed within the first 5 years after harvest. The fully mature 2014 is drinking beautifully and is a lovely example of what several years in proper cellar conditions will dramatically improve a California Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine is comprised of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the highest block of the wild and expansive Cooley Ranch in the far western reaches of Sonoma County. The block named Sky High sits 2,040 feet above sea level, towering above all neighboring peaks.
