Description
The villages of Maranges is located in the southernmost area of the Côte de Beaune and produces intense structured wines. 100% Pinot Noir grapes were de-stemmed and aged for 11 months in 30% new French oak. Fresh raspberry and black cherry aromas, with a spicy intense palate and firm tannins define this powerful premier cru Burgundy which has fine aging potential due to a great balance of acidity and tannin.
I have always liked the Maranges going back to a time when I really started to enjoy Burgundy, but most of it was out of the range of what I was comfortable spending on a bottle of wine. As a testament to my long-ish relationship with the Maranges, I have Maranges wines from 2 other producers in my inventory. This wine was the most structured of the lineup. It is fresh, approachable, but still has significant ageing potential.
