We have had several internal discussions about hosting a class about Chianti. Personally, I drink Chianti every day when I can find a good one with a little age. It generally doesn't prove to be a hard thing to do. Thus, I drink Chianti quite often. While I would like more of you to drink more Chianti, I had an epiphany. It's not just Chianti that I love. It is wine made from Sangiovese.
Brunello, Super Tuscans, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Chianti = What is the common denominator?
With the exception of Super Tuscans, all of these wines are made predominantly from Sangiovese. Super Tuscans can be 100% Sangiovese, include Sangiovese, or not have any Sangiovese in the blend whatsoever. I still love them all! But I have a special place in my heart for the Super Tuscans that include something "Tuscan" in the mix.
In anticipation of the end of a damp, cold January, it is my pleasure to invite each of you to an event that will be very special to me personally. On Friday February 9th, we will host a tasting of Tuscan Sangiovese. The lineup will include Brunello, Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Super Tuscans. We will see if someone has a good Morrelino di Scansano to sample.
We are planning to have around 30 wines open at the event. We are also featuring a bit of "soft education". As always, our suppliers' reps will be happy to answer questions on an individual level. What will be different is that we will have a few guest speakers that will share their knowledge, thoughts, and feelings about Sangiovese-based, Tuscan-borne wines and their respective wine regions.
Because Sangiovese needs food, we will provide an appropriate accompaniment.
Pizza Time! Unlike the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches made by Chef Monica, the pizzas will not be made in house. Fortunately, we know of a place that makes pizza the way we like it.
Altogether, I'm excited to mix it up a bit while selfishly creating an opportunity to sample a lot of Sangiovese! We hope you will join us.
