Cabardès: A Fusion of Bordeaux & Rhône Traditions

Cabardès AOC, located in the South of France, Slightly North and West of Corbieres, is truly unique in the French wine landscape. It’s the only appellation in France that mandates blending of Bordeaux (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc) and Rhone (Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, etc.) varietals.

The l'Esprit de Pennautier is one of two Grand Vins from the Chateau.  Made from a blend of approximately 50% Merlot, 40% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet, the l'Esprit undergoes a long maceration and barrel aging with around 60% of the barrels being new.  

The profile is elegant, with dark fruits, spices a fleshy mouthfeel and velvety tannins.  The finish is tinged with cocoa.
