Description
This single-vineyard wine is located just below some of the premier cru vineyards in this northern Côte de Nuits village. Close in style to Gevrey-Chambertin, the wines of Fixin are intense Pinot Noir wines that feature dark fruit and generous spice. The 2019 from Bouchard is from old vines, and is aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak. Aromas of morello cherry, kirsch and blueberry lead to a palate dense in fruit, flavor intensity and a long finish with ripe tannins.
Damn. This wine didn't shout. But it did speak to me very forcefully. This wine had the most POP of any of the reds. It was layered and complex, with concentration that will surprise the uninitiated.
As I am exposed to more wines from Fixin, (Peirre Gelin Fixin "Clos de Napoleon" Monopole - is another in my inventory) I can make the claim that Fixin is my favorite "neighbor" appellation in Burgundy. "Neighbor" appellations are those which share a border with more prestigious appellations, whose wines command significantly higher prices. Fixin is a neighbor to Gevrey Chambertin. Wines of comparable quality from Fixin are about 30-40% lower in price. This one is really nice.
