Description
Nizza was once a sub-region of Barbera d’Asti Superiore. In recognition of its superior, well-exposed hillside sites that consistently produced the ripest, highest-quality fruit in the region, it was elevated to DOCG status in 2014.
This wine shares much in common with the Scrimaglio Barbera d’Asti, offering the classic flavor profile of a more serious Barbera. Dark, ripe fruit is front and center, leaning more toward black plum with hints of sweet underbrush. While the signature crunchy acidity is present, it’s slightly more muted here. The added depth and weight come largely from the additional oak aging required by the disciplinare of the appellation.
Remarkably, the price is not significantly higher than the Asti from the same producer and is right in line with the other entry-level Barberas in this offer — making it one of the best value upgrades you can find in Piemonte.
