Description
Cotes du Rhone is always a great value when you find a good one. The Chateau Malijay is a blend of 50% Grenache, 45% Syrah, and 5% Mouvedre from vineyards right in a sweet spot between Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape. You can taste the sunshine in the ripe, juicy fruit that gives this wine its charm. The sunny vineyards are surrounded by mountains which keep the vineyards cool and mitigate humidity. This terroir is perfect to give ripness that does not give way to jammy overtones. Deep garnet in the glass with aromas of red and dark fruits, accented with cadamon and a hint of nutmeg. There is also an earthy element that balances the purity of the fruit. This is one of the most desirable CDR that I have tasted in a while. All this for under $20!
