Description
This small growers' cooperative near Montagny in the Côte Chalonnaise of southern Burgundy has turned out to be one of the more recent pleasant surprises I have found from Burgundy. This wine comes from a cooperative of thirty vignerons often that have begun to produce wines that compete with some of the big names in Burgundy with their exemplary offerings. I immediately understood the hype when I tasted the cooperative's superb Bourgogne Blanc “Cuvée Réserve,” which comes from Chardonnay vineyards on the plains below the village of Montagny.
It is medium bodied and well balanced with a nice concentration of flavor. Neutral barrels are used to round the edges of this wine. But, there isn't a hint of oak to mask the delicate and lovely expression of Chardonnay fruit in it's purest form.
