Description
Barrua is the name of a vineyard site in southwestern Sardinia. The surrounding Sulcis region is dominated by Carignano, an indigenous grape known for its elegant, velvety tannins. A sun-loving variety, Carignano thrives in the region’s well-exposed brown earth, composed of calcareous clay and sandy soils. Winters are mild, summers are hot and dry, and the Mediterranean Sea helps regulate the heat.
Named for the Barrua vineyard, this wine has earned the moniker “Super Sardinian.” It is composed primarily of indigenous Carignano, which makes up 85% of the blend, rounded out by the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon at 10% and Merlot at 5%.
Deep ruby red in color, the wine offers clean aromas of mature red fruit, wild herbs, and spices. On the palate, it is soft and elegant, showing notes of sage, myrtle, rosemary, vanilla, red fruit, pepper, and licorice. Fine tannins and a harmonious, persistent finish complete the profile.
