Description
This wine is produced in Milo, Contrada Villagrande on Mount Etna, from vineyards situated at 700 meters above sea level with a south-eastern exposure, conditions that favor elegance, freshness, and aromatic precision. The blend is composed of 80% Nerello Mascalese, complemented by 20% Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mantellato, grown on Guyot-trained vines planted at a density of 7,000 vines per hectare and cropped to a restrained 40 hectoliters per hectare. Aging takes place over 24 months in 500-liter chestnut barrels, followed by an additional year in bottle, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving its volcanic character.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, fluid ruby red color. Aromatically, it opens with violet and wild red forest fruit, gradually evolving toward balsamic tones and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is elegant and finely balanced, with well-integrated, velvety tannins and a persistent mineral core that carries through to a long, refined finish marked by red fruit, herbs, cinchona, and subtle spice. Best served at 16–18 °C, it pairs beautifully with rich, slow-cooked meat dishes, particularly Nebrodi Black Pig, as well as sweet-and-sour preparations. The wine is produced only in exceptional vintages, when the vineyard achieves perfect balance, and iit will age gracefully for up to twenty years.
