Description
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, managed by the Brunier family, is one of the most storied and respected estates in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Established in 1891 by Henri Brunier and officially founded as a winery in 1898 by his son Hippolyte, the estate has remained in the family for six generations.
The Domaine takes its name from an old optical telegraph tower built in 1792 by Claude Chappe, the inventor of the optical telegraph. The tower was located on the high-altitude plateau of La Crau, which provided a strategic vantage point for sending messages between Paris and Marseille.
The 2023 Famille Brunier "Télégramme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the accessible "second wine" of the iconic Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. It is designed to offer the elegance and terroir of the estate's famous La Crau plateau but with a more supple, fruit-forward profile that is ready to enjoy in its youth.
This wine is seductive and generous, balancing full ripeness with elegant restraint. It is known for its plush, silky texture and a fresher, more approachable structure than the flagship "La Crau" bottling. A traditional blend dominated by 80% Grenache, supplemented by 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre, and 4% Cinsault. Grapes are sourced from younger vines (under 30 years) and specific plots across the estate. The wine typically ages for approximately 10 months in concrete vats followed by 6 months in large French oak.
