Description
This is from a series of terroir-expressive wines from Zind Humbrecht. All Pinot Gris - Volcanique, Calcaire, and Roche Rouleé, which we affectionately call the "Rolling Stone" wine. It is bone dry and linear with an intense smoky mineral note that leads on the nose. It took a while, but eventually pithy stone fruit, we debated - Peach, nectarine? and yellow pear balanced the minerality and eventually lead on the nose. The mineral to fruit was an interesting flip. This wine provided an amazing experience in how a wine can evolve once it is opened, while proving desirable throughout the entire journey.
If you are in a hurry, this wine will benefit greatly from decanting. If you take the time to enjoy this wine a couple of ounces at a time and allow this wine reveals its many layers one by one, you will enjoy an experience that few wines provide.
This is a wine for contemplation. Sublime.
