Description
Feudo Montoni has been producing top-quality wines on its historic grounds since 1469 and is currently overseen by Fabio Sireci, the third generation of a family dedicated to producing the most refined expressions of this long-cultivated terroir. Rosario Sireci purchased the Feudo Montoni estate in the late 1800s upon discovering a wealth of ancient vines, and passed down the property his son. Located in the heart of Sicily and planted in sand and clay, this certified organic winery produces many of Italy’s most celebrated 100% indigenous varietals.
The name “Masso” comes from the rocky, sandy stones found in the vineyard, which are rich in iron and contribute to the wine’s distinct mineral structure. This terroir imparts a unique sapidity and freshness, giving the wine a firm and savory profile. THis wine is known for its powerful character and mineral complexity.
The vineyard lies in a high-altitude region, protected by centuries-old durum wheat fields that act as a natural barrier, creating an "island within an island." This isolation allows the ancient grape varieties to thrive undisturbed, preserving their purity and distinctiveness. The vineyard has a unique soil composition of rocky sand and iron, which gives the wine its characteristic freshness and mineral edge.
A golden color with lustrous, green reflections. On the nose, it presents delicate notes of bay leaf, orange flower blossom, with aromas of citrus groves of Sicilian “lumie” lemons, pink grapefruit and freshly cut grass. On the palate, it is very fresh and persistent, with a long finish marked with notes of almonds.
James Suckling - 91 Points
"A spicy wine with aromas of white pepper and minerals enhanced by vibrant white peaches. On the palate it’s medium-bodied with zesty, almost austere acidity and a tight finish that’s precise, polished and savory."
Wine Spectator - 91 Points
"Orange blossom and tarragon notes waft through this creamy, light- to medium-bodied white. Fresh and balanced, with flavors of ripe nectarine, melon, candied pink grapefruit peel and green almond underscored by a tang of salinity that echoes on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 2,900 cases made, 800 cases imported."
