Description
It is indeed a rare to find a Bordeaux from Margaux, with impressive pedigree at a price that doesn't make you weep.
The 2020 LABASTIDE de DAUZAC is a blend of 60% Merlot, and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from 35-40 year old vines on hilltops of mixed gravel and clay. These vines are not children, mind you. They are "old vines" by most standards.
Gorgeous clarity of color in the glass. Really lovely on the palate, too; bright, shiny, sleek and silky, good weight and texture. Tannins are super-fine and well integrated and this has a core of black bramble fruits with liquorice and toasty aromas too. It feels very controlled, like they haven't pushed too hard. Quite charming and enjoyable with an appealing juiciness and soft minerality too.
This wine is crafted to be consumed early and can be held for 10-15 years. It is drinking so easily now, I would be surprised if much of this wine makes it to 15 years.
