Description
These vines were planted in 1992 and is the original hillside planting on Bien Nacido Vineyard planted with the Estrella clone of Syrah. The wine was fermented with one-third whole clusters and was picked slightly riper than the Z-Block. This was aged in two-thirds new Francoise Fréres Burgundy barrels and aged in barrel for 18 months. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The 2019 Syrah Bien Nacido Z Block impresses with its creamy, layered personality. A healthy dollop (33%) of whole clusters lifts the dark Syrah fruit. The 2019 is exquisitely beautiful, but it also needs at least a few years to show the full breadth of its aromatics. Today, the 2019 is decidedly young and almost primary.
