Description
I am taking a slight liberty here calling this wine a Pinot Noir. Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for wine from the region of Burgundy in France. Most Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains, which is sometimes written unhyphenated as Bourgogne Passetoutgrains, is red although rosé wine may also be produced. Unlike other Burgundy wines, which are primarily produced from a single grape variety, Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grains is essentially a cuvée of Gamay and Pinot noir.
Tasting this wine side by side the Nahls Margreid was the perfect opportunity to highlight the greatly contrasting styles of the two wines. The Forey Passetoutgrains is an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay. On the nose, the Gamay pops instantly with an intriguing mix of fresh berry and black pepper. The Gamay gives way to the more serious character of the Pinot noir with dark cherry and spice. I've had Passetoutgrains before. But this wine left a lasting impression. Complex, with fresh fruity and savory notes all coming at you at once. Juicy and delicious!
