Ridge Vineyards' connection to the Lytton Springs vineyard began in the early 1970s. Winemaker Paul Draper first encountered the vineyard in 1972 and purchased grapes for the initial Ridge Lytton Springs bottling. The 1975 vintage, released commercially in 1975, received recognition at the Sonoma Harvest Fair. Ridge temporarily stopped using the Lytton Springs name in 1977 when the vineyard owner produced his own wine, labeling their local Zinfandel as Valley Vista. Ridge resumed using the Lytton Springs designation in 1984 after sourcing grapes from the neighboring Norton Ranch. In 1991, Ridge Vineyards acquired the Lytton Springs winery and the old-vine parcels. By 1993, the distinctiveness of the wine led Ridge to label it simply as "Lytton Springs". A new straw-bale winery and tasting room was built on the property in 2003
The 2023 Ridge Lytton Springs (76% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane, 2% Alicante Bouschet, 1% Mataro) is an elegant, structured, and vibrant Dry Creek Valley blend. Rated 95 points, it offers aromas of brambleberry, raspberry, and spice, featuring a silky palate with refined tannins and a mineral-driven, long finish.
Wine Spectator: #3 Wine of 2025
Zinfandel Chronicles Review - “Showstopping nose of red and black fruits, plums, earth and pepper. Medium to full bodied with exquisite acidity. There is a remarkable core of dark fruits presented in a package with notable power, structure and concentration. Blackberry, raspberry liqueur, marionberry and white pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. This is a Lytton Springs for the ages. Best over the next decade or so.”
