Description
This is a solid example of the quality you can find in Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG. As I state above, I am super picky when it comes to Barbera. I knew this one was a keeper on first sip. The Scrimaglio family has occupied this territory since the 17th century. They were instrumental in the revitalization of the Barbera d'Asti region as well as the elevation of the Nizza subregion to DOCG status. I discovered all of this after I tasted the wine. It all makes sense.
In the glass, the wine is deeply pigmented with a core of oxblood and a purple tinged rim. Aromas of ripe dark fruits, black plum, and underbrush will fill your glass. You will need a glass appropriate for a full-bodied red. The palate is generous and smooth as silk. It crosses the mid palate with a crunchy freshness that belies the unmistakable ripeness of the fruit. It expands softly and fully coats your palate, with a long, clean finish and just a touch of Vanilla when you exhale.
This is a freakin' bargain
